Chiang Mai - Around Town

Chiang Mai was a busy city. Here are some pics from around the town.

At the Orchid Garden
The orchids were beautiful and plentiful

Baby koi in the pond at the Celadon Factory/ The urns in the pond are made with celadon.

Happy Easter! Especially to the Dead Robin!

Beautiful Celadon. It was stunning. I bought a mug and a small dish.

We ate at The Kitchen every day. It was outstanding.

For breakfast each day, I had pad thai and mom had tom kha kai soup.
Buddha with a string connecting him to the temples

A beautiful statue in the gardens of a temple
A large temple by the boat docks. Apparently, there are over 100 temples in the old part of the city alone.

The temples had large dragons guarding the entrance.

A Thai graveyard at a temple by the river.

A 500 year old temple in the old town of Chiang Mai. It looks like the Wats in Cambodia eh?

Beautiful life-sized elephants stand guard
They were huge. Very ornate with no graffiti or damage done to them
A meandering creek running through town right behind our hotel

Local housing. Check out the electrical wiring.

The wiring was very different than home.

Walking down the street. Mom is on the right.

Mom checking out her toes after a pedicure.

Busy Street
Hunting down a mosquito bat. We finally found one. It was soooooo good. I love frying the hateful creatures.

Shark fin soup. Gross!!!!!!
Stalls on the left selling items for the locals.

Dinner walking around cock-a-doodle-dooing

More local housing

A mattress with a tent on top. Local housing?

The night market. This is one of many typical stalls with watches for sale. The night market was HUGE. Certainly the largest I have seen in SE Asia. We went every night.

The first night we had these delicious banana rolls. A fried crepe wrapped banana with chocolate sauce.

"Yin dee ton rab" "Welcome"

At one spot in the night market there were several outstanding artists. They could copy any picture. It was done with charcoal and the pictures were unbelievable.

My favourite spot in town: Le Best Foot Massage
Foot massage time. Those aren't my legs.

You would come in, sit in a chair, and request either a lady or a man. Then have one hour of glorious massages. We went for about 15 over the six days.
